JAKARTA - Indonesia has imposed "safeguard" tariffs on imports of aluminium foil to protect the domestic industry from a surge in imports, a trade ministry statement said on Wednesday

* The tariff is set at 6% from Nov. 7, 2019, to Nov. 6, 2020, and 4% from Nov. 7, 2020 to Nov. 6, 2021.

* "This decision allows the local aluminium foil industry to make structural adjustments to be able to compete with similar imported goods," Mardjoko, chairman of the Indonesia Trade Security Committee (KPPI), said.

* In Feburary, Indonesia told the World Trade Organization in a filing that it was planning to impose a 22% "safeguard" tariff on imports of aluminium foil, citing a surge in imports due to surplus flows of the commodity coming from China.
