Another group of Bahrainis were evacuated from Iran yesterday in a chartered flight arranged by the Health Ministry.

The plane, as part of the ministry’s International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme, flew in the fifth batch of citizens, who were stranded in Iran, after the outbreak of the virus in February.

“A group of citizens arrived on a chartered flight from Iran as part of Bahrain’s repatriation plans for citizens abroad,” said the ministry.

“All the necessary medical precautions have been taken.”

They were among an original 1,630 citizens stranded in Iran since the outbreak of Covid-19.

The GDN previously reported on the government’s two-month evacuation plan to bring back 3,027 Bahrainis stranded around the world due to the pandemic.

Eighteen flights have been designated to bring back the Bahrainis in Iran, until May 28, while direct flight arrangements for the others have been made with Gulf Air depending on available destinations and accessibility.
