RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Thursday recorded 1,289 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths due to complications caused by the virus over the past 24 hours as the health ministry continues to expand its vaccination campaign in the Kingdom.
This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 523,397 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,212.
According to the ministry, a total of 1,299 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 503,827.
The Makah region reported the highest number of new cases with 260, followed by the Riyadh region with 253, the Eastern region with 220, and the Jazan region with 100 infections.
The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with none of them reporting less than 10 infections.
According to the ministry, there were 11,358 active cases and 1,395 of them were in critical condition.
The health ministry also announced on Thursday that more than 26 million doses of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine have so far been administered through more than 587 designated vaccine centers across Saudi Arabia.
