Fifty-six new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Bahrain yesterday.

This means Bahrain has so far registered 756 cases of the coronavirus, including 294 active cases, 458 recoveries and four fatalities.

Of yesterday’s new cases, 31 were expatriate workers from one labour accommodation in Salmabad.

The Health Ministry said the men tested positive while in quarantine in the Sitra facility.

“After laboratory tests confirmed positive, the men were moved to treatment and isolation facilities for Covid-19,” added the ministry.

The GDN previously reported that 113 other men from the same labour accommodation tested positive last week.

They were all already in self-isolation before being transferred to the quarantine facility.

The ministry last night reiterated that the men were quarantined in their residence before testing positive for the virus – adding that there was “no spread of the virus amongst migrant workers” in the country.

According to the Health Ministry’s statistics, the number of critical cases of Covid-19 increased to four yesterday.

Twenty-seven more people were yesterday discharged from isolation and treatment facilities, taking the total number of recoveries to 458. The total number of people tested for the virus has reached 47,684.

Meanwhile, the GDN has learned that rapid testing for expatriates has been initiated at private medical clinics.

The services under the Covid-19 Task Force will be available at two centres – Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Centre in Manama and Al Hilal in Muharraq.

The move is part of the national safety campaign in association with the Health Ministry and National Health Regulatory Authority.

“The unit will be testing 50 random samples per day and the result will be available on the Health Ministry’s website the next day,” said a representative of Shifa Al Jazeera.

The mobile testing unit will be available at Al Hilal until 5pm today, while it will be available at Shifa Al Jazeera until Thursday. For more information contact 17288000 or 16171819 (Shifa Al Jazeera) or 33601405 (Al Hilal).
