The unemployment rate among Saudi citizens fell to 12.3 percent in Q2 2019 compared to 12.5 percent in Q1 2019, according to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

The unemployment rate of the total population, including non-Saudis, decreased in the second quarter to 5.6 percent, down from 5.7 percent in Q1.

The total of Saudi employed persons fell 21.78 thousand in Q2 relative to Q1, while the total of employed expats rose by 113.57 thousand.

The overall economic participation of Saudis  - men and women ages 15 years and above - reached 45 percent in Q2, compared to 42.3 percent in Q1.

The workforce survey indicated that the rate of Saudi women’s economic participation stood at 23.2 percent, compared to 20.5 percent in the previous quarter, while the economic participation of Saudi men stood at 66 percent compared to 63.3 percent in the previous quarter.

The information is collected from the market data of the relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Ministry of Civil Service, the General Organization for Social Insurance, the Human Resources Development Fund, and the National Information Center.
