ALGIERS - Algeria's annual inflation rate was 5.9 percent in September, unchanged from August, the National Statistics Bureau said on Monday.

Algeria, in a bid to ease financial pressure after a fall in energy earnings, has approved import restrictions, causing shortages of some good such as drugs and higher prices for some products.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 1.1 percent in September.

Fruit prices rose 35 percent in September, while the cost of vegetables went up 11 percent, the bureau said.

Algeria expects full-year inflation to ease from the 6.4 percent registered in 2016.
