Manama, Bahrain: The 21st Society of Petroleum Engineers Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS 2019) opens in Bahrain on 18 March 2019 under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Bahrain, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The event, which runs until 21 March 2019, is expected to attract over 8,500 attendees.

Energy kingpins will deliver welcome addresses during the launch at the Ritz-Carlton hotel, and will honour the outstanding efforts of individuals in the upstream oil and gas industry at the inaugural MEOS 2019 Energy Awards.

Among the opening line-up are Bahrain’s Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Bahrain National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa; MEOS 2019 Co-chairman and Saudi Aramco’s Chief Petroleum Engineer Waleed Al Mulhim, and 2019 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) President Sami Alnuaim.

MEOS 2019 is co-hosted by UBM AEM and the world’s largest individual-member organisation serving professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry, the SPE. The event is supported by NOGA and a committee of NOCs, IOCs, academia and service providers co-chaired in 2019 by Saudi Aramco and Petroleum Development Oman.

Established since 1979, the event builds on 40 years of successful industry interaction and features more than 400 invited speakers and a parallel 3-day international exhibition at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

In testing times for the energy sector, Waleed Al-Mulhim, MEOS 2019 Co-Chairman and Chief Petroleum Engineer, Saudi Aramco says MEOS is a bright spot for the region and the industry alike, and an important opportunity to convene.

“MEOS represents a strategic industrial event in the Middle Eastern region, focusing on innovation, opportunities, and breakthroughs, addressed by senior industry leaders,” said Waleed Al-Mulhim, MEOS 2019 Co-Chairman and Chief Petroleum Engineer, Saudi Aramco.

“It provides an opportunity looking beyond the industry; focusing on collaboration with business, educational institutions, governments and society. We need joint development of new technologies that will increase discovery and recovery, reduce cost, enhance safety and protect the environment,” he continued.

The MEOS 2019 theme ‘Resilience through Talent and Technology Transformation’ focuses on the challenges the oil and gas industry faces in meeting world energy demand efficiently, safely, and responsibly in a fluctuating market, and the many emerging solutions available to those operating in this sector.

The associated 12,000 square metre exhibition of industry products and services opens in a separate ceremony on 19 March 2019 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, and runs until 21 March 2019.

More than 200 companies from 25 countries will be in attendance. The global showcase features key stakeholders, major players, suppliers and service providers in the oil and gas sector providing a spatial environment to explore new technologies, partnerships and business opportunities.
