ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), on Thursday announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates University (UAEU).

ADES will explore retrofitting its buildings with energy efficient solutions that reduce power and water consumption to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability throughout its premises in Al Ain.

It will also work closely with UAEU to assess its current power and water consumption trends and develop a comprehensive plan to improve energy efficiency across the university's facilities.

The MoU plays an important role in Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalisation Strategy 2030, which targets a reduction in electricity consumption by more than 22 percent and water consumption by more than 32 percent.

"The UAE University is a natural fit for ADES. As an institution that puts sustainability and environmental responsibility at centre stage, UAEU plays a critical role in encouraging more sustainable-conscious global citizens. TAQA is excited to partner with UAEU to extend that approach to sustainability to their buildings and infrastructure through ADES," Omar Abdulla Alhashmi, Executive Director of Transmission and Distribution at TAQA Group, said.

In turn, Prof. Ghaleb Alhadrami Albreiki, Acting Vice Chancellor of the UAEU, said, "The cooperation between the UAEU and Abu Dhabi Energy Services comes in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 which aims to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix from 25% to 50% by 2050 to help preserve the nation’s vital resources for future generations." Stephane le Gentil, Chief Operating Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer at ADES, stated that ADES will engage students and academic staff in the programme and share data and insights, "showcasing our work and efforts as a real-life case study in sustainability."
