Seven people at two restaurants have been fined a total of BD11,000 for violating precautionary measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The restaurants in Manama, that failed to adhere to social distancing norms, were shut down and fined BD2,000 each by the Lower Criminal Court yesterday.

The seven people were fined between BD1,000 and BD2,000 for failing to implement regulations.

“The Public Prosecution received a notification from the public health department about the lack of social distancing at the restaurants,” read the ruling.

“The court found the defendants guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against them.”

This was part of a crackdown on violations of health safety measures during and after New Year celebrations.

Authorities previously said that violators would be handed swift rulings by specialised courts the same day they stand trial to deter others from flouting safety rules.
