A number of ministers have taken a shot of the coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine as part of their keenness to support national efforts to tackle the pandemic.

The ministers praised Team Bahrain – led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister – for their proactive efforts in tackling Covid-19, which have won the kingdom international acclaim.

Among those who took the vaccine yesterday were: Information Affairs Minister Ali Al Rumaihi, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Shura and Parliament Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain, Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer, Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi and Defence Affairs Minister Lieutenant General Abdulla Al Nuaimi.

On November 3, Bahrain’s Health Ministry announced that the National Health Regulatory Authority had authorised the emergency use of the vaccine among frontline healthcare workers.

Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh said use of the vaccine was in full compliance with the kingdom’s regulations and laws which allow for exceptional licensing in emergency cases, adding that results of studies of the first and second phases of clinical trials proved that the vaccine was safe and effective.

Meanwhile, rapid tests for the coronavirus are now being done on staff and students of public schools.

Ministries of Health and Education launched the tests yesterday among a sample of students and administrative, educational and technical staff from schools across all four governorates.

“This comes as part of precautionary measures taken by the Education Ministry in co-ordination with the authorities,” said Education Ministry general and technical education assistant under-secretary Latifa Al Bunouza.

“Health of this community is our priority and we believe that this will contribute to ensuring a sustainable and successful school year,” she said.

East Riffa Primary School for Girls was one of the institutions where tests were conducted yesterday.

The pilot programme of the rapid test, or antigen test, was earlier launched in four private schools – the British School of Bahrain, St Christopher’s School, Nadeem School and Riffa Views International School.

Rapid test kits – which detect infections through a nasal swab with an accurate diagnosis of the patient’s condition within 15 minutes without the need for a specialised laboratory – are also available at authorised pharmacies across Bahrain for BD4.
