Hamad International Airport reports increase in passenger and cargo traffic in 2014 compared to the previous year.

Doha - Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar's five-star gateway to the world, today announced a 13% passenger growth in 2014 in comparison to the previous year. This meansover three million more passengers travelled using Doha's airport in 2014 compared to 2013.

HIA saw a total of 26,356,392 travellers departing, arriving and transiting through its passenger terminal complex in 2014. Of these, 10.6 millionpassengers travelled through Doha International Airport, Doha's former commercial airport, and 15.7 million passengers travelled through Hamad International Airport, which started its commercial operations on the 27th of May 2014.

Cargo movements also increasedby 13% with 114,445,235 more cargo movements in 2014 compared to the previous year. This is in line with the airport's commitment toexponentially increasing Qatar's capacity to handle international movements of people and goods.

Badr Al Meer, HIA's Chief Operating Officer said: "I am happy to report the increase in passenger numbers and cargo traffic in 2014. This largely owes to our transition to Hamad International Airport which offers our passengers world-class facilities and services with the very latest technology integrated into the airport, establishing its global standing as an international transit hub."

Further commenting on the rise in passengers, Mr Al Meer stated: "The rapid growth of Qatar's national carrier, Qatar Airways, which has introduced several new destinations and has added several state-of-the-art aircraft to its fleet, has been another significant reason for the upsurge in passenger numbers."

Regarding HIA's expectations for 2015, Mr Al Meer remarked: "We are expecting a steady growth in passengers and cargo as well as aircraft movements. We will also be introducing new facilities and services to the passenger terminal complex to ensure passengers have a seamless and hassle-free onward journey, marking our airport's commitment to world-class standards."
