Etihad Airways is introducing Etihad Credit for customers whose travel plans have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Abu Dhabi carrier said on Thursday that it is offering the original value of the passengers’ booking to be used as credit towards their next trip.

Customers who have booked to travel before June 30 can use Etihad Credit and have until September 30 to rebook their trip for travel until December 31, with any ticket, any fare type, and to any Etihad destination. Fare differences from the original ticket price will be charged.

“As the situation around the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, these new measures will provide maximum flexibility and ensures guests that need to travel, do so safely and conveniently,” the airline said in a statement.

“Etihad Guest members will be gifted monthly bonus tier miles from 31st March for three months to help them maintain their tier status. Eligible members will receive further information directly,” it added.

The UAE is barring entry to valid resident visas holders who are currently out of the country, effective Thursday, March 19, for a renewable period of two weeks, to stem the coronavirus spread.

The country has suspended the issuance of visas on arrival as well as labour permits, including for drivers and domestic workers, effective Thursday, March 19. The move exempts intra-corporate transfer and EXPO 2020 permits.

The UAE has also implemented a ban on citizens travelling overseas from Wednesday, March 18 until further notice.
