Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading urban developers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced that the main structural framework of Dragon Mall and the Asian Dining Street in Dragon City is completed and is well ahead of its targeted date as per the project's timeline.

Set in the southwest corner of Diyar Al Muharraq on a 115,000 square meter area, Dragon City is the first-of-its kind development in Bahrain. It has a gross floor area of circa 51,000 sq. metres, approximately 750 individual retail store spaces, warehousing of circa 4,500sq. metres, car parking for some 1,500 customer vehicles and incorporates an Asian Dining street of some 6,000 sq meters which is an architectural highlight in itself.

Diyar Al Muharraq had appointed Nass Contracting for the construction of Phase 1 of Dragon City. Construction work on the project commenced on 15th May 2014 and the targeted date for completion is June, 2015.

Dr. Maher Al Shaer, Chief Executive Officer of Diyar Al Muharraq, commented on the progress so far, saying "We at Diyar Al Muharraq are immensely pleased to be on target with the construction of Dragon City and all its related developments, notably Dragon Mall and the Asian Dining Street. Dragon City is considered to be a unique concept in Bahrain and is set to be a large scale trade platform for the direct sale of Chinese goods, with options for retail and wholesale opportunities and a tourist and entertainment site with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects. Dragon City aims to attract foreign investments that serve the national economy and allows for the provision of employment opportunities, in addition to meeting consumer demands.

The facility will offer a variety of Chinese products such as home appliances, household items, building materials, furniture, toys, machinery, garments, textiles, footwear and general merchandise. The development is expected to draw in a multitude of visitors on a regular basis, which will include local consumers, trade customers and tourists.

The Dragon City concept was launched in May 2012 as the result of an agreement between Diyar Al Muharraq and Chinamex. Gulf House Engineering was appointed for design and supervision and Baker, Wilkins & Smith Middle East (BWS) for Cost Consultancy services, while Cluttons were appointed as the leasing agent for the project in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
