KUWAIT CITY, July 14, (KUNA): Kuwait Airways announced halting its flights to Iraq’s Najaf until further notice, due to the current security conditions in the city.

In a statement released on Saturday, Kuwait Airways said that it will either divert already existing booking for Najaf to other aviation companies or return the tickets back to clients without fees. Iraqi authorities had halted flights from Al-Najaf International Airport yesterday as demonstrators against the lack of services in the country broke into the airport. Kuwait Airways, one of the oldest aviation companies in the Gulf, was founded in 1953 as a private company under the name “Kuwait National Airways”.

In 1962, the Kuwaiti government fully acquired the company by 100 percent.

The aviation provides flights to about 40 destinations around the world.
