Amman – Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LSE: HIK) (DIFX: HIK) – the multinational generic pharmaceutical company – announced a 4-year global partnership with Direct Relief, one of the world’s leading medical relief organizations, and the Prince’s Trust, which helps disadvantaged young people gain new skills and life-changing experiences for career development, as part of its new corporate brand launch announced recently aimed to put better health within reach for people around the world. The commitment of funding for the coming years as well as the provision of quality medicines will enable Direct Relief to strengthen healthcare services and capacity for vulnerable populations, particularly in Jordan and the US.

In Jordan, this program will enable Hikma and Direct Relief to provide essential medicines, supplies, and other resources to support those residing in the country’s refugee camps.  Direct Relief will also provide a telemedicine unit to support physicians when difficult cases are presented. The Hikma partnership in the US will focus on supporting the safety net providers in states where the majority of Hikma’s US employees live and work - Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“Ensuring that our products are available and accessible to those that need them is the essence of our brand promise and has been our purpose for the past 40 years,” said Said Darwazah, Hikma’s Executive Chairman. “Our vision is for a healthier world and we are very proud to be embarking on this important partnership with Direct Relief, to help both their network of community clinics and pharmacies in the US, as well as providing critical medical care to refugees in Jordan.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Hikma on these important initiatives. Hikma’s commitment and support for the coming four years, paired with the donation of medicines for chronic and acute conditions, expertise and volunteerism, will make a tremendous difference in the lives of people who have limited access to the health services,” said Thomas Tighe, CEO of Direct Relief. “Hikma’s long-standing record of supporting and giving back to communities in need is admirable, and it is a privilege to work with them to extend this legacy of humanitarian service.”

The Prince’s Trust partnership will support young people who face multiple barriers to access education and employment opportunities in the UK. This is also very much in line with Hikma’s focus on empowering youth through providing educationopportunities.  Hikma will support The Prince’s Trust’s programmes and interventions, with a portion of funds focussed specifically on the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

“We have always believed we have a duty of care not just to the patients who use our medicines, but also to the communities in which we operate,” said Hana Ramadan, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility.  “We are delighted to become a Patron of the Prince’s Trust and support the important work they do with young people. Our growing London team looks forward to the numerous volunteering opportunities to help young people overcome barriers they face in education and work.”

Tom Lamb, Senior Head of Business Development and Corporate Partnerships for The Prince’s Trust, said, “We are immensely grateful to Hikma for their generosity. We’re excited to work with the business in the UK, engaging staff in volunteering and mentoring and inspiring young people to explore brand new career pathways. Together, we are giving disadvantaged young people new skills and opportunities to achieve their full potential.”

About The Prince’s Trust
Youth charity The Prince’s Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. It supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Many of the young people helped by The Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law.

The Trust’s programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training. The Prince of Wales’s charity has helped 870,000 young people since 1976 and supports over 100 more each day.
