The runway at Bahrain International Airport was temporarily closed yesterday due to an oil leak.

It happened at around 4.30pm when an aeroplane leaked oil on the runway. It prompted the temporary closure and diversion of six flights to neighbouring airports.

Operations at the airport resumed within an hour. “The Bahrain Airport Company has resumed its normal operations at the Bahrain International Airport, following the closure of the runway due to an oil leak

from a plane which arrived in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said the company in a statement. “The runway was closed for around an hour, starting at 4.27pm, in a precautionary measure for the safety of

passengers.“Five flights were diverted to Dammam Airport and another to Kuwait International Airport.”

It added that all necessary measures were taken to remove the leaked oil from the runway and ensure safe plane landing and takeoff.
