Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates — The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted their 7th Commencement Ceremony in the presence of Ras Al Khaimah’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, and Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi.

The evening commenced with the arrival of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi and the recitation of the Holy Quran by Mr. Masood Hafiz Abdus Sakur.

The commencement speeches of AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, and Valedictorian, Ms. Aisha El Allam, were all braided together with a common thread for the students: change the world. Professor Hassan initiated the weaving with his hopeful expectations, “Every one of you is about to set out to make your very own mark on the world and to change it in ways that we could never have imagined.” Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi continued in challenging the students, “We need you, our successors, to continue what we started; to build, to create, to invent, to discover, to push boundaries further...” Ms. Aisha El Allam then tied a ribbon around the message by offering her peers advice, “Don’t be afraid to change the world.”

The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success, Professor Stephen Wilhite, then presented the graduates to President Hassan, and His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qassimi awarded the 159 graduates with their degrees, 122 bachelor’s degrees and 37 master’s. President Hassan ended the ceremony in giving the official proclamation of the conferral of degrees, solidifying their accomplishment. The rite was commemorated with a group photograph of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi; Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi; President Hassan; Professor Wilhite; the deans; and the graduates.
