ADJD and ADGM Courts organise mock trial session

ABU DHABI- The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, ADJD, and the Abu Dhabi Global Market Courts, ADGM Courts, on Wednesday organised a mock trial session of landlord-tenant leasing disputes with the ultimate objective of bolstering joint ties.

The event was also aimed at educating the professionals as well as the public on the litigation procedures and the best international practices and experiences of such cases.

It was also part of the continuous coordination between ADJD, ADGM Courts and other judicial authorities in the emirate in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and ADJD Chairman, with the ultimate objective of enhancing their performance. William Stone, Judge of ADGM Courts, chaired the mock session that started with the plaintiff's attorney presenting the expert's report that includes evaluation of the damages occurred in the property's power and water networks. The attorney also requested the court to include the expert’s report in the case file. The defendant's attorney requested the court not to accept the expert's report claiming that it is not specific and does not conform with the expert’s evidence that has been agreed upon.

Judge Stone said that the expert is an independent party and his job is to assist the court to identify some sides of the property in question and not to support the claims of the party that appointed him. "The report shall not go beyond these basic standards and shall not be considered by the court if not accepted in prior," he said.
