Riffa, Bahrain: The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) launched Bahrain’s first nationwide program through which high school students would be able to live a full day as AUBH students, in a real-time preview of university life. The fifty selected students experienced college-level classes with the University’s dual-modality learning experience and a career-guidance session on AUBH’s 75,000 square meter, state-of-the-art campus in Riffa. They also took part in socially-distanced extra-curricular activities with current students.

To apply for the program, applicants were asked to share why they thought they would benefit from the experience in a direct message, on the University’s Instagram channel. To ensure the community’s safety and to abide by the University’s Covid-19 guidelines, AUBH ensured that there would only be a limited number of students at a time on campus.

AUBH Founding President Dr. Susan E. Saxton commented: “The first year of University can be stressful and uncomfortable for students who aren’t sure what to expect, especially with distance learning classroom mandates brought on by Covid-19 safety precautions. AUBH’s dual-modality model affords students a choice of on-campus or online experiences, and we wanted to share what that’s like with the high school students who may choose to go to university next year.  If they like AUBH, they also get an opportunity to engage with the campus, faculty and current students before they graduate high school so there are no surprises on day 1 of the university experience.”

The University’s launch of the competition is in line with its mission to offer an accessible, American-style teaching and learning experience in Bahrain, on par with the best universities in the United States.
