More than 1,000 Ramadan food baskets have been handed over to charity societies to be distributed to families hit by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The Northern Governorate has donated the packages to seven organisations: Muqaba Charitable Society, Bani Jamra Charitable Society, Budayia Charitable Society, Janabiyah Charitable Society, Jannusan Charitable Society, Bahrain Deaf Society, and the Islam Awareness Centre.

The donation is part of the governorate’s annual Ramadan charity work in co-operation with the Feena Khair (Good in Us) campaign which aims to help people in need during the holy month.

“The initiative to distribute Ramadan baskets during the holy month comes from the promotion of charitable and solidarity work among the community, and an affirmation of the principle of community partnership with civil society institutions,” said Northern Governor Ali Al Asfoor.

“We urge the charitable societies to co-operate with the Northern Governorate in its campaign, ‘Hand in Hand to Defeat the Coronavirus Pandemic’, and spread awareness among community members about the importance of the vaccine.

“They can open a dialogue to answer citizens’ questions and queries about the vaccine, in co-operation with the Health Ministry, and urge people to adhere to preventive and precautionary measures in order to achieve herd immunity,” added Mr Al Asfoor.

The societies thanked the governorate and praised the Feena Khair campaign launched by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic on many vulnerable families.
