Muscat: Residents of Muscat can sleep easy following the announcement of restrictions on building works in the Municipality. The Chairman of Muscat Municipality, Mohsin ash ‘Sheikh, has issued a decision amending some provisions of the regulations, making it no longer permissible to carry out any excavation, demolition and construction work between sunset and sunrise, on official holidays, and on Fridays in residential neighbourhoods. Necessary works require prior permission from the municipality.

Contractors will also now only obtain a permit for works after they have submitted proof of the boundaries of the plot to the Ministry of Housing, must clearly mark the boundaries of the plot on the ground and must work only within the boundaries of the plot.

Citizens said they were reassured following the order. “The first thing that came to mind when I saw that construction was taking place near my home was that the workers will be welding and making all sorts of odd noises between sunset and sunrise. But now I am relieved,” a resident of Azaiba said.
