The Interior Minister has issued an order, published in the Official Gazette, to add a new provision to the rules governing passports, authorising the General Directorate of Immigration and Passports to require applicants for passport issuance or replacement to enclose a DNA testing report for children born out of Bahrain to support biological relationship (direct or collateral kinship).

The report may be required in other cases as deemed necessary.

The directorate may also require the applicant to provide a report on age determination test or any laboratory or other tests.

Only medical reports issued by competent government authorities accredited in Bahrain shall be recognised.
