Bahrain - Two amendments to Bahrain’s budget law, both approved by MPs twice, have been rejected for the second time by the Shura Council.

The first would have forced the government not to introduce or increase fees, unless a separate law is drawn up.

The second would have obliged the Finance and National Economy Minister to present the national budget in August, before its constitutional deadline in October.

Both amendments have been shelved and can only be advanced if parliament and the Shura Council meet for a joint National Assembly session, something that hasn’t happened since the current legislative system started in 2002.
