RIYADH — As many as 554,357 Saudi and expatriate employees have quit the labor market during the fourth quarter of 2018, a section of the local press reported on Sunday quoting the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

According to GOSI, there were 9,367,593 employees in the labor market during the last three months of 2017 but their number came down to 8,813,236 in the last quarter of the current year.

Riyadh with 3.2 million employees was the largest employer in the Kingdom followed by Makkah which had 1.5 million and the Eastern Province with 1.3 million.

Saudis who are actually on the job and are GOSI subscribers are 1.9 million while the expatriates are 7.4 million.

GOSI said its Saudi and expatriate male subscribers are 8.5 million while the female subscribers are 810,216.

GOSI said there were 7,776 workplace injuries during the last three months which resulted in 16 deaths in the private sector.

It said 2,221 suffered injuries after falling down from a height.

Other causes of injuries included traffic accidents and excessive exhaustion.

As many as 3,372 people are still receiving treatment in various hospitals.

A total of 427 Saudi men, 92 women, 7,186 expatriate men and 72 women suffered work place injuries.
