The UAE's National Program for Coders is its latest initiative towards revving up a digital economy. As part of the program, the Emirates has tied up with tech giants, will set up 1,000 tech companies in five years and raise start up investments up to AED4 billion ($1.09 billion).

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted on Saturday evening: "Today we launched the National Program for Coders in collaboration with Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, IBM, HPE, LinkedIn, Nvidia and Facebook, with the aim of training and attracting 100,000 coders, establishing 1000 digital companies within 5 years and increasing investment in startups from AED1.5 billion ($410 million) to AED4 billion ($1.09 billion)."

The national program also contributes to providing the opportunity for entrepreneurs, project owners and startups specialized in programming to support the digital transformation process in various key sectors.

"Our youth need to know that the future has new tools.. speaks a different language.. and adopts online work methodologies. We want them to be at the heart of this future. The National Program for Coders aims to engage the local digital communities in the digital transformation of the UAE. It further highlights the UAE’s leading role in designing the future, embracing talents, entrepreneurs, academics, startups, global companies, and future investments globally," Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

The UAE seeks to attract the best international coders and provide them with the infrastructure needed to develop innovative ideas that serve the world.

The new strategy aims to support the national initiatives and future strategies and develop the capabilities of national talents, attract digital skills from around the world, and provide the necessary infrastructure to establish and expand the number of innovation-based companies.

“We will support national coders in developing themselves into the best in the world. We will employ promising talent in the development of 10 platforms for supporting social and humanitarian projects in the UAE,” Sheikh Mohammed said while launching the new program.
