City to rebuild Jeddahs fish market

Consumers have been complaining about unhealthy conditions at the current fish market in Jeddah

JEDDAH - Jeddah Municipality has announced plans to set up a new central fish market with international specifications.

The new fish market will come up in the same location of the current fish market with facilities to satisfy the needs of the customers.

In a response to a report published earlier by the Okaz newspaper on the condition of Jeddah’s central fish market, the municipality said its officials are continuously monitoring the place around the clock with the help of the management of the market.

The municipality conducts regular inspection tours on shops selling fish in the market. There are health teams that check the fish to make sure they meet the health standards.

The municipality said it conducted more than 180 field inspection visits in recent months in the fish market and seized more than 7,629 kilograms of fish not good for human consumption.
