Doha, Qatar - 05 June 2015

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail), the company overseeing the construction of the Qatar's integrated railway network, was recently awarded the ISO certification OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety management systems, following management systems audits of the Qatar Rail QSHESE department by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.

OHSAS 18001 is Qatar Rail's second accolade from ISO in less than 2 months, as the company received earlier in May ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality management, which specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The certificate handing ceremony at Qatar Rail's headquarters in Doha, was attended by Eng. Hamad Al Bishri, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Fahad Al-Jaber, QSHESE Director. Mr. Brian Baxter, Area Field Service Manager at LRQA (Lloyds), presented the award and congratulated the team on the tremendous achievement.

Commenting on the certification, Al Bishri said:

"This is a key milestone for our company as it indicates not only Qatar Rail's commitment towards Health and Safety governance and assurance management, but more importantly a framework for continuous improvement and excellence in delivery. I thank all of the Qatar Rail team and LRQA for their efforts in making this possible."
