The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi has urged Indian citizens whose UAE visas have expired before March 1, 2020, or those whose stay in the UAE has not been regularised, to exit the country by August 17.

The embassy has made available a form that Indian citizens can fill and submit to the mission.

"The concerned persons need to send an application, including details of their passport, local contact/mobile number, email address, visa copy etc with supporting documents to ca.abudhabi@mea.gov.in (for Abu Dhabi cases) and cons2.dubai@mea.gov.in (for Dubai and Northern Emirates Cases). It should be sent at least 7 working days before the intended date of travel to India," the embassy said.

Those who do not have a passport should approach the embassy in Abu Dhabi or the consulate in Dubai for issuance of a Passport/Emergency certificate, as the case may be before applying, the embassy added.

A grace period of three months, starting from May 18, has been set for all expats who are staying in the UAE in violation of the UAE Foreigners' Residency and Entry Law, a senior official of the Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) had said earlier this year.

Brigadier Khamis Al Kaabi, official spokesperson of the FAIC, said that as per a gesture from the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Cabinet issued an order, exempting all expats, including holders of entry permits and residency visas, whose violations of the law happened on or after March 1.

"We urge all expats to register at the FAIC portal to avail of the grace period that shall start on May 18 up to three months. All breaches related to expired Emirates IDs and labour cards will also be cancelled," Brigadier Al Kaabi pointed out.

Al Kaabi added that the decision includes exemption from all fines relating to ID cards and expired work permits incurred by beneficiaries.

"Accordingly, all Indian nationals whose visas have expired before March 1, 2020 are advised to avail of this opportunity to leave the country without paying any fines till August 17, 2020," the embassy said.
