Beware, motorists who do not give way to pedestrians crossing roads will be monitored through advanced surveillance systems and slapped fines accordingly, the Dubai Police have warned.

"There are lots of drivers who do not prioritise pedestrians who cross the roads from designated areas. This is a serious violation and can cause injuries and even death," said Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council and Dubai Police assistant commander-in-chief for operations.

According to the federal traffic law, a fine of Dh500 and six traffic points will be slapped for this violation, he added.

Maj-Gen Al Zafeen called on motorists to be careful while driving and give attention to pedestrians. "Motorists should reduce their speed as they approach pedestrian crossings, especially while driving through densely populated areas," he said.
