'Stop, drop, and burpees', roared a fitness instructor on-stage as 22-year-old Indian national Shireen Faizi squatted on the floor, kicked her legs back, jumped back up, and leapt while throwing her fists into the air.

Faizi was one of the participants at the HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) organised by Bendy Bunch at the Dubai Festival City arena on Saturday. It was a super-charged and action-packed weekend at the Dubai Festival City as fitness enthusiasm gripped residents on the second day of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.

Excitement reached a feverish pitch on the second day as hundreds of residents gathered at the arena to take advantage of the free sessions. From Zumba to martial arts, and from dance sessions to warrior workouts, "challengers" had a plethora of free activities to choose from.

Speaking to Khaleej Times after the free class, Faizi said: "This is the first time I'm participating in the challenge. I was nursing an injury last year and couldn't take part. I am very excited this year."

She added, "My challenge is to try and do something new and fun every day."

Another Dubai resident Afrah Zameel said: "I hope to lose weight. At least 4kgs with the fitness challenge."
