UAE-headquartered private utility company Utico said on Monday that it has been awarded an $80 million contract to build the 120 million imperial gallons (MIG) Hassyan water reservoir by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

The latest contract follows on the heels of Utico signing a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) agreement with DEWA for the 120 MIGD Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Independent Water Plant (IWP) project.

The reservoir deal is an add-on to the $410 million Hassyan IWP, the company said in its press statement.

It said the storage reservoir’s 60 MIG capacity would be expandable to 120 MIG, while the IWP’s 120 MIGD capacity would be expandable to 240 MIGD.

DEWA had floated a separate tender for the Hassyan reservoir project and its scope of work includes associated electro-mechanical and SCADA works.

“It makes us proud as an Emirati company equipped with cutting-edge technical, operational and engineering capabilities in winning these projects and providing the best globally competitive price for water projects,” said Ali Al Darwish, Chief Executive Officer of Utico in the UAE.

The reservoir and desalination capacities together make Hassyan IWP the largest in the world in terms of total final capacity, Utico said.
