Dubai: Middlesex University Dubai announces the launch of its highly anticipated BA Honours Fashion Design for students looking to join the University’s September intake.

The impressive new programme will equip students with innovative skills, support their creativity, and encourage them to discover their own design identity. Students will cover a vast array of exciting topics such as fashion illustration, portfolio presentation, technical drawings, garment construction, pattern cutting, corsetry, and tailoring.

In the first year of study, students will focus on developing key skills alongside their creative design skills. The second year will further push these skills through modules including a menswear tailoring project, and a 2D to 3D translation project. The third year allows students to focus on the specialisms they have developed to hone their skills ready for their final portfolio work. Students will then prepare a final collection based on their inspirations, and will be fully prepared to enter the fashion industry with their own unique fashion identity.

Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai, emphasised “Throughout this programme, the development of each student’s individual stylistic identity means that they will be better placed to compete within the job market after they’ve graduated. The portfolios and projects of students will be examined by industry employers and experts with outstanding credentials, which will further increase their employability.”

Students will benefit from a brand new, state-of-the-art, cutting-edge design studio, and the launch of the Industry Fashion Incubator to further enhance their learning experience.  In line with prestigious events including Arab Fashion Week (held twice a year in Dubai), and the eagerly anticipated Dubai Shopping Festival, the University will hold Fashion Evenings with famous designers, allowing students to build their network and learn from fashion experts.

Alongside the programme, the University has set up the Fashion Advisor Board (FAB), which will comprise of Middlesex University Dubai Alumni Dina Melwani who will act as a role model and success story for current students, together with leading designers from the region and beyond. “The set-up of the Fashion Advisor Board is essential as it will provide advice and guidance to our students, and will serve as an important bridge between industry and students,” Dr Cedwyn further added. Throughout their studies, students can utilise the University’s dedicated Careers and Employability Service, which supports students with internships, career opportunities, as well as providing guidance on CV writing, interview preparation, and programme specific Career Days.

Middlesex University Dubai currently delivers a quality UK education to over 3,200 students from more than 100 nationalities across the world, allowing students are able to benefit from the ideas and perspectives of a culturally diverse cohort. Undergraduate students also have the opportunity to transfer to the University’s home campus in London during their second year of study.
