Muscat: A contract for the management and operation of the sales outlet (the store) of the Sultanate’s Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has been signed.

The agreement was signed at the Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre between Mohsin bin Khamis Al Balushi, Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Commissioner General of the Sultanate’s Pavilion, Rashid bin Amer Al Moselhi, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for Financial and Administrative Affairs at Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Abdul Hakim bin Amer Al Muslehi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Taiseer Services and Transactions Centre.

Hassan bin Mohammed Al Lawati, Advisor to the Minister of Heritage and Culture for Heritage Affairs and Deputy Commissioner-General of the Sultanate’s Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, and Nada Al Bassam Director General at Taiseer Services and Transactions Centre were present at the meeting.

In line with the theme and goals of Expo 2020 Dubai (Connecting Minds and Creating the Future) and its sub-themes (Mobility - Opportunity - Sustainability) which will be held in Dubai from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021, in which Oman will participate with a national pavilion, the signing of this contract aims to give young pioneers and owners of small and medium enterprises the opportunity to participate in the exhibition at all stages of preparation to take part in the global event in order to gain skills, knowledge and experience in specific business and services so that eventually they will be able to compete with regional and international companies. Moreover, the signing will benefit Omani companies, especially small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurs and craftsmen to take advantage of direct and indirect business opportunities that will be available through the Sultanate’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.

Under this contract, Taiseer Services and Transactions Centre will manage and operate the sales outlet (the store) in the Sultanate’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Taiseer Services and Transactions Centre is considered a small and medium enterprises where it displays and sells Omani products and handicrafts that will be selected according to specific standards that meet the requirements, laws, and procedures of Expo 2020 Dubai Organizing Committee. The Sultanate’s Pavilion will allocate a portion of the booth space to establish a sales outlet (the store) to display and sell products of Omani SMEs wholly owned by Omanis and registered with The Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (RIYADA) or Alraffd Fund, as well as Omani craft products and industries for Omani craftsmen registered with the Public Authority for Craft Industries and the products of productive families and rural women. These products will then be selected according to specific requirements, laws, and procedures to be agreed upon in coordination with the relevant authorities which are The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Social Development, The Public Authority for Craft Industries, The Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada), Alraffd Fund, Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry , and Taiseer Services and Transactions Center. Finally, the products will be sold by the centre to visitors of the Sultanate’s pavilion in particular and the Expo in general.

The sales outlet targets visitors from the general public, visitors from the Sultanate’s pavilion, Expo visitors who could be local citizens, residents, Gulf, Arab or foreign visitors, as well as representatives of specialized local, regional and international companies looking for new products, goods and unique traditional handicraft industries aiming to find opportunities and areas in order to deal with owners of small and medium enterprises and craftsmen And then buying these product and importing them to their own markets as well as foreign markets.

The general criteria according to which products and goods are selected after their approval by the relevant authorities are the quality of the product, the aesthetics, Omani features and identity, the suitability of the product for display at a global event such as Expo 2020 Dubai, creativity of the product, the ability to produce and provide commercial quantities, packaging the product, labels of the product in both Arabic and English, the price code on the product, whether or not the product has scientific, technical and legal standards that comply with the rules governing intellectual property, patent, trademark and consumer protection laws. As for food products, it is necessary to have one of the following health certificates: (HACCAP) or (ISO 22000 or BRC).

Regarding traditional Omani products, goods and handicraft suitable for display at the outlet and suitable for a global event such as the Expo are (Omani Halwa and desserts, dates , honey , Omani spices , gifts, antiques and artwork , perfumes, incense, frankincense , daggers and silverware, gold, silver, bone, and products made from sea shells, as well as women accessories , ceramic and clay products, glass products , wood products, baskets, products made from bamboo, palm leaves and coconut shell , textile and leather products , copper and iron products , gypsum and stone products – distillates, incense and traditional cosmetics, and other Omani handicrafts and industries of small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs.

Since the Expo is a very important international exhibition, it is expected that most of the participating countries will seek to open outlets for displaying and selling products, goods and handicrafts of their countries within their national Pavilions, and they will be competing in displaying their best products, goods and handicrafts to present a positive image in this international forum about their countries and their various industries and products in terms of: (Excellence, individuality, innovation, appeal, idea, components and materials used in manufacturing, quality, packaging, form, as well as compliance to scientific, technical and legal standards that are in line with the rules governing intellectual property, patent, trademark and consumer protection in the country hosting the event).

It is also worth mentioning that due to the limited space of the sales outlet in the Sultanate’s Pavilion and the limited exhibition space, only a specific number of products, goods and handicrafts will be chosen in terms of quantity, type and size, taking into consideration, as much as possible, covering the largest number of products, goods, and handicrafts.
