ArabFinance: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Egypt showed that consumed domestic cotton stood at 172,700 metric kentar during the March-May period, according to an official report.

The new div was 91.5% Year on Year (YoY) higher than 38,000 metric kentar in the same period in 2019.

CAPMAS added that Egypt exported 195,200 metric kentar of cotton from March until May this year.

The country registered 61.7% YoY decrease in cotton exports when compared to 810,200 metric kentar in the same period last year, the statistics agency said.

The decline in Egyptian cotton exports was attributed to higher consumption during the third quarter of agricultural season 2019/2020, according to CAPMAS.

The Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector recently announced the establishment of 50 centers to collect and receive the cultivated cotton of season 2020/2021 from farmers.
