Dubai, United Arab Emirates - This year, the UAE will introduce a new phase of checking the weights and sizes of manufactured products in the local markets. The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology - ESMA will require the national factories and production facilities by applying a national system of industrial measurements.

The first phase will be applied to paints, Fresh poultry, and detergent. A similar plan will be launched next year, including juice, vegetable oils, perfumes and soft drinks. HE Abdullah Al Maeeni, Director General of ESMA said.

The national system of industrial measurements will save time and effort in inspections of production lines in factories, in a way that helps producers reduce the losses caused by waste of raw materials. Weights and quantities of goods, and avoids errors resulting from weights. Al Maeeni added.

The industrial measurement system is an innovative system that regulates the measurement processes in factories through an integrated system covering all stages of manufacturing production.

"From measurements related to production inputs, through the efficiency of the workers and accuracy of the measuring instruments and their classification and calibration periodically in accredited laboratories for efficiency measurements and waste reduction resulting from faults, leading to the final product and distributing it to consumers," he said.

The system developed by the Authority and issued by the Board of Directors Resolution No. 9 of 2017, aimed at controlling the measurements of the weights and sizes of goods and products in all stages of production, in order to provide products in the markets in accordance with the highest international quality standards, as well.

Paints factories, energy drinks, fresh poultry and detergents will be required during the current year to implement the system, which will reduce waste in production, increase the efficiency of workers in national production lines and ensure that the measuring instruments used locally with globally, in an effort to raise quality and provide consumers with world-class products.

Eng. Amina Zainal, Director of Standardization Department, said: "Since the approval of the system last year, ESMA has developed an awareness plan to introduce traders and producers to the system and its importance in helping them to raise the efficiency of the production lines and to provide locally manufactured products with international specifications.

"Two awareness workshops during the first three months of this year, and we have an ambitious plan to expand the awareness of various productive institutions in the country," she added.

Last week, the ESMA organized a workshop for paint factories and suppliers of energy drinks in the country to explain the requirements of applying the industrial measurement system to these establishments. The workshop comes to introduce the practical application of the system which will be in the current year, including factories for paints, energy drinks, detergents and fresh poultry.
