Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is sponsoring Al Dhafra Summer Festival, a three-week event organized by the Al Dhafra Club, running between July and August 2019.

The sponsorship and collaboration agreement was signed by H.E. Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, and H.E. Saleh Jazlan Al Mazrouei, Chairman of Al-Dhafra Club at ENEC’s Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Al Dhafra Summer Festival 2019 includes a number of cultural, sporting and social events and activities designed for the youth, to ensure an enjoyable and beneficial summer vacation for them.

H.E. Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, ENEC CEO, said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support events in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi Emirate, where the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is located. This agreement reflects our commitment to supporting youth and encouraging them to take part in activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. We are looking forward to working closely with Al Dhafra Club to support the next generation, in line with our wider corporate social responsibility program for supporting the community of the Al Dhafra region, “Al Hammadi said.

The sponsorship and collaboration agreement comes in line with the ENEC’s initiatives to raise awareness about the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy among the youth. The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is supporting the UAE’s efforts to tackle climate change, while also enhancing its energy mix, and diversifying its economy through the development of a local nuclear energy supply chain and the provision of high-value jobs. Through such initiatives, ENEC also aims to inspire the youth to study STEM subjects and consider preparing for a high value career in the peaceful nuclear energy industry.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation is moving steadily towards the completion of Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi Emirate. The overall construction completion of the four units has exceeded 93%, with Unit 1 construction complete, Unit 4 at more than 82%, Unit 3 at more than 91% and Unit 2 more than 95% complete.

Unit 1 construction is complete and is currently undergoing commissioning and testing, prior to regulatory review and receipt of the Operating License (OL) from the FANR. Recently FANR has officially certified the first group of 15 UAE National Senior Reactor Operators (SROs) and Reactor Operators (ROs) at Nawah Energy Company, the operations and maintenance subsidiary of ENEC. The certification of SROs and ROs is a key requirement to receive the OL.

The four Units of the Barakah plant will deliver clean, efficient and reliable electricity to the UAE grid, and will prevent up to 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to removing 3.2 million sedan cars from the roads.
