Comic Con Arabia bringing the best of pop-culture to Saudi Arabia

Multi-genre celebration will take place at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center from Nov. 23-25.

Riyadh - The first edition of popular culture convention, Comic Con Arabia, is coming to Riyadh.

Multi-genre celebration will take place at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center from Nov. 23-25.

This three-day event will provide spectators with the exclusive opportunity to meet Game of Thrones and Justice League star Jason Momoa, Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbaek, Big Bang Theory star Kevin Sussman, Underworld: Awakenings Tudor and Lost Girl star Kristen Holden-Reid, Mother! star and videogame Legend of Zelda Princess Zelda’s voiceover actress Patricia Summersett and many more.

Comic Con Arabia’s audience will be entertained with an eclectic selection of activities including live entertainment.

Events include two cosplay competitions, stimulating discussion panels with international cosplayers and voiceover actors, workshops, challenging eSports tournaments, food from a delicious medley of food-trucks, and shop for some exclusive collectibles inspired by the exhilarating world of anime, manga, graphic novels, video games, toys, TV shows and films.

Live performances include a stand-up comedy set by Kuwaiti Comedians Sultan Al Faraj and Mubarak Al Manea and a musical performance by regional rap legend Qusai. There will be games and activities hosted by TV host and popular MC Baraa Abdulla.

The region’s best cosplayers will have the chance to compete against each other in an exclusive male and female cosplay competition, for a cash prize of SR7,000 each. The competitions will be judged by international cosplayers Carlos Blanchard, Riki LeCotey and Michael Wilson. Professional cosplay building team Extreme Costumes’ member, Thomas DePetrillo - famous for his 9Ft. Hulkbuster costume - will also be attending.

A costume workshop will be held by expert costume creator Christopher Donio, who works with the specialty costuming department on several film and television projects like, Captain America Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Ant-Man and X-Men: First Class.

Additionally, Comic Con Arabia will have discussion panels with famed voiceover actors Kyle Hebert (Gohan, Naruto, Dragon Ball series), Jason Liebrecht (Wolf Children, Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa), Lisle Wilkerson, (Tekken Series, Virtua Fighter), and Samantha Inoue-Harte (Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Sakura Wars). Engaging with aspiring comic designers will be Chia-Chi Wang freelance graphic designer and owner of Excel Comics.

He has over 25 years of experience working with major Major comic companies such as Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Archie Comics. Cinematic make-up workshop for women will also be held with regional make-up artist Ghadeer Sultan.

Apart from the cosplay competitions, Comic Con Arabia will have numerous occasions to win prizes such as a fully paid trip to Spain and many other giveaways from social media competitions. Additional prizes will be provided for the winners of the eSports tournaments and competitions.
