The Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) has partnered with Shenzhen Xinji Group to set up a plug-and-play ‘Park in park’ manufacturing facility within the port’s industrial zone, local news website Lanka Business Online reported on Wednesday.

The report said the $16 million high-tech industrial facility, spread over an area of 9,000 square metres, will provide “one-stop” services for light industries, while avoiding the hassle and costs involved in setting up factories.

It said the project will promote the production and manufacturing of household electric and electronic appliances, adding that Xinji will provide procurement support for upstream enterprises and sales support for downstream enterprises in the park.

HIPG is a Public-Private Partnership and a Strategic Development Project between the Government of Sri Lanka and China Merchants Port Holdings (CMPort), according to its website.
