Sharjah, UAE: The second Young Environmentalists Forum was launched at the Environment and Protected Areas Authority’s (EPAA) Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre in Kalba city recently. The Forum – entitled ‘We Are All Sustainability Ambassadors’ – will last until July 18th. Aimed at children aged between 12 and 17 years of age, Sharjah Sport Council and the children of female employees are participating in this year’s Forum.
HE Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, EPAA Chairperson, said, “We were keen to organise this Forum, because it gets children involved and raises awareness about the importance of the environment. Children participated in the first Forum very enthusiastically. At the second Forum, young environmentalists will enjoy a variety of interesting events, activities and programs.”
Mrs Al Suwaidi explained that the Forum aims to make the younger generation aware of current environmental issues, encourage teamwork, volunteering and the responsible use of environmental resources, and instil an understanding of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment and a sense of responsibility. Events and activities will include lectures, workshops, competitions and entertaining and educational field trips and visits.
The Forum will promote the development of ethical values and responsibility while teaching children about environmental sustainability and the importance of recycling.
EPAA thanked the participants for adding value to the Forum. EPAA is eager to raise environmental awareness, especially in children.
