Celebrating the UAE’s global Health Care ranking and discussing leadership in Health Care Management

Dubai, UAE - Murdoch University Dubai held a Health Care Management Forum earlier this week as part of its Master of Health Care Management program launch. Distinguished leaders in Health Care were invited to discuss and debate topics around leadership and transformation within the Health Care industry.

Attendees were able to share ideas and ask questions to a panel of experts, with representations from government and private sectors including Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Synapse Medical Services, Kings College London and Ayurveda Centers. The health care leaders outlined megatrends and new technologies in the UAE, and shared personal experiences.

Margaret Faux - Founder and CEO of Synapse Medical Services - gave a keynote address titled “Thinking Outside the Hospital Box” and gave 10 tips to current and future healthcare leaders on how to practise leadership in health care. According to Faux, managing health care is different to managing any other industry and requires a certain skillset and knowledge.

Following this session, Faux moderated a panel of health care leaders including:

The panel acknowledged that UAE healthcare sector is doing very well with the development of its universal health care coverage scheme. Health Care in the UAE has been ranked at number 10 globally in terms of systems operations, efficiency and quality. They agreed that it is a great achievement for the country in such a short period of time.

In an interview post the forum, Dr. Adil Sajwani said “UAE 2021 vision focuses on international health care systems, and this can not be achieved without a very advanced education system. Universities in the UAE should follow the trends, be prepared for the futuristic vision and modify their curriculum accordingly.”

Dr. Ibtesam Al Bastaki commented on leadership in health care adding that “We need to work together to improve the health care system not only in Dubai but in the entirety of the UAE, as well as the region. Private and public sectors must collaborate to bring the best experiences, spread the knowhows; encourage the innovations; and above all develop the education.”

Claire Macrae, Programme Co-ordinator for Murdoch Dubai’s new Graduate Certificate and Masters in Health Care Management stressed that “Murdoch Dubai is excited to be part of this growth. We trust that the new courses we are launching will help contribute significantly to the need to strengthen leadership capacity in the region.”
