• Online fitness market value expected to contribute $36.5 million in revenue by 2025

 Dubai, United Arab Emirates : The Middle East’s only international fitness, wellness and sports tradeshow, Dubai Active Industry, is providing a stage for its knowledge partner, Ken Research, to lift the lid on the MENA region’s health and fitness trends, and current and future economic state, through the ‘Assessment for Impact of Health and Fitness Clubs to MENA Economy – Outlook to 2025’ report later this month.

Held in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Active Industry will host the session on 28th October at the Middle East Fitness Business Summit, which will see Ken Research share key findings about hot topics in the industry such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the MENA fitness industry, the future of the industry post pandemic, and the spend saving on healthcare in the GCC through the increase in popularity of health and fitness.

Key statistics that can be revealed ahead of the full report unveiling highlight the positive industry growth and include:

  • The UAE fitness industry is expected to reach over $600 million by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 10.9%, with member penetration in offline fitness centres to increase to 6.3% by 2025
  • Online health and fitness market in the UAE is expected to contribute $36.5 million in revenue in 2025, growing at a CAGR of 16%
  • The fitness industry in the MENA region is expected to grow 19% CAGR in the next four years
  • Boutique fitness centres anticipated to showcase the highest growth, rising from 1,600 outlets in 2020 to 2,600 in 2025
  • Member footfall across fitness centres in MENA are also predicted to bounce back post COVID with an increase of 2.4% due to major gym chains focusing on expanding services into sub-urban areas
  • Digital fitness app penetration in the UAE to increase to 15.9% in 2025 from 9.8% in 2020 due to growing trend of online fitness training, accelerated by the pandemic

The session will also take a deep dive into the consumer trends that have emerged due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the report highlighting the resilience of fitness outlets in the Middle East post pandemic, reporting a 10% increase in memberships for on-demand and livestream group classes. The research has also found that consumer awareness of exercise in the Middle East has increased rapidly with more than 25% of the population working out 3 to 5 hours per week in 2021, compared to less than 15% in 2020. As expected, 55% more fitness app installations were reported during the first half of 2020 compared to H1 of 2019.
