BBD Education, the UAE school management consultancy, has announced it will help one of the world’s leading schools, Gordonstoun School to support its brand expansion into Nova Scotia, Canada.

Earlier this year, the highly-coveted private school announced its expansion plans to open in China with BBD Education support and now the partnership will now turn their focus to eastern Canada. The opening is expected by 2022.

19th May, 2020: Gordonstoun’s new Canadian campus lies between the sea and the hills, emulating the setting of Gordonstoun in Scotland. The site is spread over some 250 acres within Annapolis County.

Gordonstoun’s links to Nova Scotia date back hundreds of years. The main building at the school, Gordonstoun House, was originally owned by Sir Robert Gordon who was the first Baronet of Nova Scotia. He was granted 16,000 acres on the coast of Nova Scotia for the Barony of Nova Scotia in 1625.

The Nova Scotia school campus will have the famous Kurt Hahn philosophy at its core. Known as a forward-thinking school that has pioneered character education, Gordonstoun promotes an ethos that stretches, challenges, nurtures and develops every child. It is the only school in the world, for example, where the students help operate a local fire and coastguard service.

BBD Education, the Dubai-based education consultancy, has been supporting Gordonstoun’s opening in China, and will continue its support with the Nova Scotia opening, which is expected by 2022.

Jon Longdon, BBD’s International Development Director commented “We are fortunate to have such depth and strength across our team in managing school projects globally. Our systems for design, project control, procurement. Marketing, HR and business process mapping are world-class and underpin our success in opening international schools”.

Based on its track record, BBD Education will work as an adviser and project manager to the school. The BBD group is currently managing projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, China and Indonesia. Canada will be BBD’s first foray into North America.

BBD Education’s Chairman, Ralph Tabberer commented, “We are proud to be a product of the thriving school sector in the UAE. Based on our pioneering projects in the region, we now find that our skills are in demand in countries like China, Canada and Singapore. One of our first tasks is to help find great Principals who want to step up and make the biggest move of their career, into leading some of the world’s foremost schools.”

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, the international education sector is expected to continue its rapid growth. English-medium private schools attract parents in all parts of the world. The UAE has been at the forefront of inventing the new global model for schools, with premium and affordable schools cheek by jowl, and BBD Education is just one of the companies that have gained advantage.
