Muscat: Rain and hail are expected over the Sultanate starting late on 17 May until next Tuesday as a weather depression affects Oman.

According to the Directorate General of Meteorology, the earliest chances of rain are expected on 17 May despite mainly clear skies, as there is expected to be a "cloud advection associated with rain" and occasional thundershowers over the Hajar Mountains.

Starting from 18 May, the weather depression is expected to strengthen, with "partly cloudy to cloudy skies" over most of Oman, with chances of rain and occasional thundershowers accompanied by fresh winds and hail.

The depression's affects are expected to continue for two to three days after Saturday.
