P&T, an international design firm providing clients with innovative, commercially successful and sustainable design solutions since 1868, has announced the launch of its second edition of the P&T Student Competition in the UAE.

Headquartered in Hong Kong, P&T is ranked as one of the largest consultancy companies in the field of architecture and engineering in the world.

The company organises this annual competition as part of its social responsibility to the community by nurturing the young architects and answering the region’s challenges.

This year there are registrations from 115 students, representing eight universities across the UAE; including Abu Dhabi University, Ajman University, Al Ghurair University, American University in Dubai, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, American University of Sharjah, Canadian University Dubai and University of Sharjah, said the statement from P&T.

This year, the students will be challenged to submit designs for a cultural museum and visitors centre in Jumeirah, promoting local heritage within the year of “Towards the next 50”.

The winner will bag Dh10,000 ($2722) prize and an internship at the firm, while the second prize winner will walk away with Dh6,000 and the third prize will be Dh4,000. Honorary certificates will also be issued to seven other notable submissions, it stated.

The winners of the competition will be awarded next April at a private ceremony to be held in Dubai International Financial Centre.

It will be attended by the finalists’, partners, judges, and representatives of the Society of Engineers and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The judging panel comprising elite regional and global experts, shall use three basic criteria to assess each project; namely idea, presentation and sustainable environmental solutions.

Managing Director James Abbott said: "Students can have great ideas that are innovative, brave and forward thinking that provide fresh ways to look at the challenging task of designing buildings that can offer something new to the UAE community."

"The firm has achieved a leading position in various, unique, and high-quality buildings and developments," stated Abbott.

"P&T applies the highest performance standards in architectural design, engineering services and consultancy. The firm’s international experience is combined with local knowledge to bridge the gap between cultures and disciplines, and to meet and exceed clients’ expectations," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
