You will now get real-time updates about Dubai's public bus movement on Google Maps, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. Previously, the maps would display just fixed bus timetables. With the instant updates, passengers would be able to track delays or early arrival of buses due to emergency factors.

The move makes Dubai the first city in the Middle East to use open data in public transport at par with 100 smart cities across the globe.

"Linking and providing instant updates of bus schedules on Google Maps will help public transport riders and keep them informed of bus timetables. Such updates will enable them to better plan their journeys and minimise potential complaints from changes in timetables for unavoidable reasons," said Khaled Al Awadi, director of transportation systems at the Public Transport Agency.
