Sixty per cent of the Covid-19 cases in Bahrain have recovered, which is a good rate in the region, said officials yesterday.

This is due to the high number of tests conducted, which helped in contact tracing and early treatment, and the availability of ample treatment facilities, said National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19) member and Salmaniya Medical Complex Infectious and Internal Diseases consultant Dr Jameela Al Salman.

To date, Bahrain has registered 12,311 cases including 4,884 active cases, 7,407 recoveries and 20 deaths.

The country has conducted 330,733 tests.

“The high number of tests and increased capacity of facilities led to a good recovery rate in the region,” said Dr Al Salman.

Dr Al Salman was addressing an online Press conference yesterday from the Crown Prince Centre for Training and Medical Research at the BDF Hospital.

Present were Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea and taskforce monitoring committee head Lt Col Dr Manaf Al Qahtani.

Dr Al Manea said advancement in treatment protocols also resulted in the high recovery rate.

“We are among the leading countries in recovery rate and have not reached a stage where the health system could collapse – because we have had proper methodologies in place.”

Dr Al Qahtani said improving health protocols led to the high recovery rate.

“We have 60pc recoveries, and I believe some points led to this, which include the treatment protocol since the beginning which was improved every two weeks, based on scientific and medical studies.

“We have weekly co-ordinated meetings for doctors who follow admission and discharge mechanisms with a proper follow-up system.

“We are also active in medical research, contributing to many forums under a specialised team involved with the pandemic.”
