MANAMA: Bahrain yesterday recorded the highest maximum temperature in the last 28 years.

Mercury hit 48.7C in the country against 45.7C recorded in 1993.

According to Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate, the highest temperature was recorded at Bahrain International Circuit.

Durrat Al Bahrain recorded 47.7C, followed by 45.5C at Bahrain International Airport and 43.7C at King Fahad Causeway.

“These days we are under the influence of light to moderate westerly to south westerly winds originating from the desert of Saudi Arabia,” said the Meteorological Department on its Twitter account.

“This hot and dry air mass contributed to the rising of temperatures, which is above normal rates for this month.”

The GDN earlier reported that the average temperature in Bahrain could go up by more than 10C by 2050.

This prediction was made by an expert, based on an assessment of the trend from 1950 to 2020, and the fact that the average temperature in the country has been rising since 2014. Arabian Gulf University Applied Physics Professor Waheeb Alnaser had said that policy-makers could use the data to predict the possible problems and recommend solutions.
