Manama: Bahrain will be opening up on Friday and moving to the Covid-19 ‘green level’ as a result of falling positive cases, the National Taskforce to Combat Covid-19 announced last night.

But it added that new restrictions will be introduced over Eid with the kingdom adopting ‘orange level’ in the interest of public health and safety during the Arafah and Eid Al Adha holidays, starting from Monday to Thursday.

The announcement by the task force follows a review of the average Covid-19 positivity rates and approval by the Government Executive Committee.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister, chaired a meeting of the executive committee, held remotely, earlier in the day.

It reviewed latest Covid-19 measures and regulations, including travel procedures and the ‘Alert Level Traffic Light System’.

Average Covid-19 positivity rates will again be reviewed following the Eid Al Adha holidays, on July 23, to determine the alert level.

The task force emphasised the importance of following preventive measures throughout the holidays.

The Covid-19 Alert Level Traffic Light System is based on positivity rates, to guide sector activities across Bahrain.

The system consists of four levels based on the average percentage of cases to tests, in addition to the level of occupancy in intensive care units, as follows:

Green: When the rolling average percentage of positive cases out of tests carried out is below two per cent for 14 days.

Yellow: When the rolling average percentage of positive cases out of tests carried out is between 2pc-5pc for seven days.

Orange: When the rolling average percentage of positive cases out of tests carried out is between 5pc-8pc for four days.

Red: When the rolling average percentage of positive cases out of all tests carried out is 8pc or more for three days.

The Civil Aviation Affairs has updated travel regulations and expanded the number of Red List countries including the Philippines, Iran and Iraq.

The move comes in line with directives issued by the Government Executive Committee after a review of the latest recommendations of the task force.
