The Ministry of Health and Prevention has issued an advisory on the use of two medicines produced by the pharmaceuticals giant, Pfizer.

According to the ministry, the company updated the list of side effects caused by the two medicines used for treating rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis and Ulcerative colitis.

The medicines, (Xeljanz 5mg) and (Xeljanz XR 11mg), distributed locally by Gulf Drug, have the active substance Tofacitinib that in high doses increases the risk of forming blood clots in the lungs.

The ministry ordered the manufacturing company to clearly mention the risks in the patient information leaflet, adding that the aforementioned medicines are safe and will not be banned in the local market.

Additionally, the ministry urged people using the drug to report any side effects from using these two medicines.
