Pakistani workers will be able to get an early resolution of their work disputes with employers in the UAE, according to a new MOU signed between Pakistan and the UAE.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari in a tweet said the MOU was signed to protect overseas Pakistani labours.

"It (The MOU) will ease remittance process," he said in the tweet. "It will evolve a mechanism for early resolution of disputes with employers/providing legal assistance," he said.

Last month Khaleej Times raised the issue of the illegal recruitment of security guards, some of whom were briefly deputed to work in the emirate's malls, following which the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources (MOPHR) cancelled the operational licence of a Peshawar-based overseas recruitment agent.

A notice was also issued by Bukhari in this regard that read that the hiring was done without the permission of the Directorate General Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment in Pakistan. A website titled www.gulfvisajobs.com was subsequently blocked by Pakistan's regulatory authority.

MOPHR has also recently started an awareness campaign for Pakistanis seeking jobs overseas and has asked them to verify the status of authorized recruitment agencies on the www.beoe.gov.pk website before accepting job offers abroad.
